Megan Callander (PhD)

Megan Callander is currently completing her PhD at University of Western Sydney. Her research is on the successful reintroduction of the native bush rat (Rattus fuscipes) into Sydney Harbour National Parks, an ecosystem with few native species. With a focus on their social behaviour, she hopes to discover the behavioural mechanisms which maintain the social organisation of bush rat populations. With the knowledge of social dynamics there is a potential for further successful reintroductions of native species.

Megan completed her Bachelor of Science (Honours) in 2010. The study was on the effects of Atrazine (a commonly used herbicide) on sex differentiation and development in the Murray freshwater Turtle.

Megan has had experience in animal husbandry, laboratory procedures for genetic analysis and histology, and various techniques in field work research (trapping, radio tracking, surveying and monitoring wildlife populations). She is interested in all things ecology, animal behaviour and conservation.
