Jessica McGlashan (PhD)
Jessica is currently completing her PhD on the physiological mechanisms of synchronous hatching in freshwater turtles. She is working with two Australian (Chelodina longicollis and Emydura macquarii) and an America species (Chrysemys picta), investigating the importance of hormones, particularly thyroid and stress (corticosterone), on the physiological mechanism of metabolic compensation. Having co-supervisor Professor Fred Janzen from Iowa State University has given Jessica the opportunity to travel to America and undertake a part of her research at Fred’s long term field site on the Mississippi River in Illinois. Jessica is also a part of Professor Mike Thompson’s lab at the University of Sydney. Jessica hopes to finish her dissertation by mid-2015.
